Another fun Tonight Show of a favorite—“Stuck in the Middle with You”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKYiTg6_J-M, Jimmy Fallon and the Roots.
Leonard Bernstein is one of the greatest American artistic geniuses of the 20th century. Besides being a renowned conductor of one of the world’s great orchestras, he was a prolific composer of some of the most significant American musical theatre. His shows West Side Story and Wonderful Town were multiple award winners and are part of the canon of this uniquely American art form. I would argue Candide (“it’s the best of all possible worlds”) may be his greatest work. POETRY
Ode on Solitude
Alexander Pope
Happy the man, whose wish and care A few paternal acres bound, Content to breathe his native air, In his own ground. Whose herds with milk, whose fields with bread, Whose flocks supply him with attire, Whose trees in summer yield him shade, In winter fire. Blest! who can unconcern'dly find Hours, days, and years slide soft away, In health of body, peace of mind, Quiet by day, Sound sleep by night; study and ease Together mix'd; sweet recreation, And innocence, which most does please, With meditation. Thus let me live, unseen, unknown; Thus unlamented let me die; Steal from the world, and not a stone Tell where I lie.
By the way, I believe Pope wrote this when he was 12 years old!
Happy Weekend,
Glenn
