Musings Beyond the Bunker is a blog by Glenn Sonnenberg. It began as a daily email to friends starting March 14, 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic. Glenn was looking for a place to “muse” over the pandemic, isolation, and related mental health issues. Eventually, it expanded to include musings about books, history, movies, politics, pastimes, travel, music, poetry, art, and public policy. It has been shared daily since it began. Glenn hopes that the Musings are a source of community and provides a thoughtful place to share a voice of reason and politely disagree and debate amidst the cacophony of our fast-faced, often polarized, society.
When he isn’t writing the Musings or responding to readers, Glenn heads a real estate investment company.
Glenn and his wife, Andrea, constantly try to find places when they contribute to bettering the community. Glenn serves on the Board Directors of Bet Tzedek—the House of Justice, the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, Wayfinder Family Services, the Children’s Institute, the AJC, Wise Readers to Leaders, deToledo High School, and the Center Theatre Group. Glenn is co-chair of the annual USC Law School Forum on Real Estate Law and Business and serves on the Board of Counselors of the USC Law School. Glenn has coached middle school debate and loves training parents to act as judges.
In recognition of his contributions, Glenn has been awarded the Bet Tzedek Founder’s Award, the USC Alumni Award, the Los Angeles Jewish Federation Maimonides Torch of Justice, the Claremont McKenna College Middle School Debate Award, the USC Libraries Ex Libris Award and the USC Law Real Estate Lifetime Achievement Award.
A graduate of the University of Southern California, B.A. 1977, history, magna cum laude, phi beta kappa, Mr. Sonnenberg also received his J.D. in 1980 from USC.
Mr. Sonnenberg began his career as a practicing attorney in real estate and finance.
