Greetings and happy Sunday!
Keeping with my tradition of pausing on Sundays to recount the great wisdom and guidance of our supreme leader. Today I’d like to comment on is favorite of the week, as he continues to defend the naming of army bases after traitorous Confederate generals (and, in some cases, incompetent generals):
“I spoke to highly respected (Chairman) Senator @Jiminhofe, who informed me that he WILL NOT be changing the names of our great Military Bases and Forts, places from which we won two World Wars (and more!). Like me, Jim is not a believer in “Cancel Culture”.”
What’s really incredible is how hard Mr. Trump is willing to fight to preserve the names of Confederate traitors to our country and keep their memory alive! I’m sure this has nothing to do with his desire to placate certain segments of his base. But a little bit of analysis confirms that neither Mr. Trump nor his team have done even a little bit of analysis… General Bragg, for instance, has a number of accolades we should remember:
• He ran a sugar plantation that relied upon slave labor
• He is generally considered to have been a horrible general
• He lost nearly every battle in which he engaged
• He was universally disliked and disrespected by his troops
Pulitzer Prize winning Civil War historian James M. McPherson, refers to "the bumblers like Bragg and Pemberton and Hood, who lost the West.” If you’re interested in a great read, by the way, Battle Cry of Freedom by McPherson, remains one of the definitive one-volume accounts of the war.
Historian Peter Cozzens adds:
Even Bragg's staunchest supporters admonished him for his quick temper, general irritability, and tendency to wound innocent men with barbs thrown during his frequent fits of anger. His reluctance to praise or flatter was exceeded, we are told, only by the tenacity with which, once formed, he clung to an adverse impression of a subordinate.
Do any of these traits sound familiar to you? Maybe Mr. Trump’s support is due to his close identification with these special personality traits.
I think it’s just great that Fort Bragg continues to keep his legacy alive!
Then there’s this…
Recently watched failed RINO Tom Ridge, former head of Homeland Security, trying to justify his sudden love of the Radical Left Mayor of Portland, who last night was booed & shouted out of existence by the agitators & anarchists. Love watching pathetic Never Trumpers squirm!
Will someone please advise Tom Ridge’s family that he no longer exists? It no doubt will be news to them.
Have a great Sunday,
Glenn
