Musings from the Bunker 7/21/20

Good morning,

Last Tuesday I shared some quotes regarding the fear and anger that have gripped our country, expressed both on the national stage and in our inter-personal relationships. This got a fair bit of response with other observations in this vein. Here are a few:

Glenn Raines pointed out a great stanza from “We Walk the Same Line” from Everything But the Girl:

And we can't run and we can't cheat 'Cause baby when we meet What we're afraid of We find out what we're made of

I also like the following two stanzas:

And so, if you lose your faith, babe You can have mine And if you're lost I'm right behind 'Cause we walk the same line

When it's dark, baby There's a light out shinin' And if you're lost I'm right behind 'Cause we walk the same line

Howard Rodman provides one of his favorite quotes, from James Baldwin:

"I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain."

Finally, Alan Rosenbach provides a quote from Frank Zappa, sparked by the Yoda quote:

“Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is THE BEST.”

The quote “information is not knowledge” originally is attributed to Albert Einstein, who said, “Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience. You need experience to gain wisdom.”

That Einstein guy is pretty smart, possessed of nearly the same genius as Zappa…

All the best,

Glenn
