Musings from the Bunker 6/13/20

Good morning,

No politics, no COVID, no movies or books---just poetry and music…

MUSIC

Try this one on…All Along the Watchtower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UHHc7POovg&feature=youtu.be

And then there’s “Old Blue Eyes” with some advice on resilience in these challenging times: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avU2aarQUiU

POETRY

This poem came to me via the Children’s Institute. It is written by Carlos (seen above), a graduating student from Children’s Institute’s Individualized Transition Skills Program. These kids are graduating from high school and are attending college in the Fall. The students primarily are from the foster care system, typically three times more likely not to graduate high school. It gives one hope to know of these kids, struggling against odds that most of us cannot imagine, are out there and succeeding:

Today is the day my life begins I choose to be accountable, I choose to be responsible To live a better life.

Today is the day I begin to live. I choose to be true to myself, I choose to be honest, To live the life I’ve always wanted.

Today is the day I learn to love I choose to love those who doubted me, I choose to bestow my warmth on those who believed in me, To live a life with the people I love.

Today is the day I become responsible, I choose to face my problems, I choose to accept the consequences, To live a life without regret.

Today is the day I accept my faith, I choose to believe in soulmates, I choose to believe in what can be, To live a life full of happiness.

Today is the day I realized what life is, I choose to take every opportunity, I choose to take action, To live life to the fullest.

Excerpt from To Bless the Space Between Us, by John O’Donoghue

This is the time to be slow, Lie low to the wall Until the bitter weather passes.

Try, as best you can, not to let The wire brush of doubt Scrape from your heart All sense of yourself And your hesitant light.

If you remain generous, Time will come good; And you will find your feet Again on fresh pastures of promise, Where the air will be kind And blushed with beginning.

Have a great weekend,

Glenn
