Greetings and Happy Saturday!
Yes, the above comes from Texas…! Thanks, Ellen Muskin, from Austin!
MUSICAL MOMENTS
I love this rendition of “God Only Knows,” by the Beach Boys, arranged, sung, and choreographed by (mostly) British artists. Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Sam Smith, and others appear in this great and well-staged production. This was produced by the “Beeb” (the BBC): God Only Knows - BBC Music - YouTube
If you like John Lennon and if you like Willie Nelson, you can have them both in this rendition of “Imagine”: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/see-willie-nelsons-spiritual-take-on-john-lennons-imagine-40971/
OZYMANDIUS
I was thinking about this poem the other day. I’ve always liked it. It’s a beautiful, mysterious, and thought provoking meditation, so I thought I’d share it:
Ozymandius
By Percy Bisshe Shelley
I met a traveller from an antique land Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand, Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things, The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed. And on the pedestal these words appear: "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains: round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, The lone and level sands stretch far away.
AND FINALLY..
With the drawing of this Love and the voice of this Calling
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
-- T. S. Eliot, Four Quartets
Have a great weekend,
Glenn
