Musings from the Bunker 11/29/20

Happy Sunday,

I’ve been dipping into Facebook groups that support to understand how people support our Supreme Leader. What I found is that many of his people continue to believe the election was “stolen” and that the crazy, unproven conspiracies are real. They also believe in, and actually are energized by, tweets like these:

“…an Election that is a fraudulent mess. Fake ballots, dead people voting, no Republican Poll Watchers allowed, & more!”

“Why is Joe Biden so quickly forming a Cabinet when my investigators have found hundreds of thousands of fraudulent votes, enough to “flip” at least four States, which in turn is more than enough to win the Election? Hopefully the Courts and/or Legislatures will have...the COURAGE to do what has to be done to maintain the integrity of our Elections, and the United States of America itself. THE WORLD IS WATCHING!!!”

“The Media is just as corrupt as the Election itself!”

“Fake News always “forgets” to mention that far fewer people are dying when they get Covid. This is do [sic] to both our advanced therapeutics, and the gained knowledge of our great doctors, nurses and front line workers!”

“President Trump has done many great things (biggest tax & regulation cuts in history, Space Force, rebuilding our military, fixing the V.A., the Wall), but perhaps the most important of all will be what he is doing now, exposing the massive corruption in our Electoral Process.”

“The proof pouring in is undeniable. Many more votes than needed. This was a LANDSLIDE!”

As you may know, Twitter has taken to labeling untrue statements with notations like “This claim about election fraud is disputed.” His supporters claim that this notation is somehow “censorship” (which, of course, it is not). These people also believe the the Supreme Court will accept their petition to hear the argument to “do over” the election, that tens of thousands of votes were “flipped” through a system of widespread conspiracy, and other such things.

I think we’re going to make it through. This week the tide turned and American democracy survived the attacks of the past weeks. While I’m going to try to shift away from politics in the coming weeks, I will continue to ponder exactly what we’ve been through, what can be done to restore faith in our systems, and historical antecedents that may provide some guidance.

Best, Glenn
