Musings from the Bunker 11/22/20

Happy Sunday, Now that we are firmly stuck in the “tantrum phase” of the Trump presidency, we now wait with bated breath for each pronouncement. While the news on vaccinations is good, the news on anything under the purview of our lame-duck president is all bad (and I’m not even talking about his attacks on our democratic institutions):

  • Staggering rise in COVID cases and deaths, at least partially propelled by the President’s reluctance to endorse tougher mask and distancing measures.

  • The President’s complete absence from the discussions on dealing with the COVID surge as he sulks and strategizes (if that word even applies) on denying the vote in states that didn’t vote for him

  • The firing of senior civilian defense and intelligence personnel

  • Mr. Mnuchin’s unilateral and venal pullback of a federal loan program supported by the Fed

  • The firing of the senior Homeland Security officer responsible for the successful and transparent vote, apparently because he refused to buy the narrative of “widespread fraud” (widespread fraud with nary a shred of evidence).

  • The rush to lease portions of the Arctic Wildlife Refuge before his term ends

  • The rush to deliver weapons to the UAE

  • The rush to pull troops out of hot spots around the world, against the advice of military and state department experts

  • The rush to gain Senate confirmation of a nominee for the Federal Reserve Board who is universally derided by economists and bankers, who believes we should go back to the gold standard and doesn’t agree to the Fed’s involvement in monetary policy

  • The rush to restrict the President-elect’s hand in dealing with Iran and China

  • The complete lack of concern with the protocols of a presidential transition that are part of the norms of ensuring our collective safety and well-being.

The list goes on and on. This charlatan, along with his henchmen, Rudy Giuliani and Lindsey Graham, isn’t satisfied with anything less than burning the house down as he leaves. Some officials, under cover of anonymity, acknowledge that his goal is to hamstring Biden however he can and that many of his actions are purely vindictive. What a helluva guy. Here are just a few of our Supreme Leader’s Twitter pronouncements from this week… “People are not going to stand for having this Election stolen from them by a privately owned Radical Left company, Dominion, and many other reasons!” “There is tremendous evidence of wide spread voter fraud in that there is irrefutable proof that our Republican poll watchers and observers were not allowed to be present in poll counting rooms. Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and others. Unconstitutional!” “He won because the Election was Rigged. NO VOTE WATCHERS OR OBSERVERS allowed, vote tabulated by a Radical Left privately owned company, Dominion, with a bad reputation & bum equipment that couldn’t even qualify for Texas (which I won by a lot!), the Fake & Silent Media, & more!” “The Radical Left Democrats, working with their partner, the Fake News Media, are trying to STEAL this Election. We won’t let them!” “I won the Election!” “John Bolton was one of the dumbest people in government that I’ve had the “pleasure” to work with. A sullen, dull and quiet guy, he added nothing to National Security except, “Gee, let’s go to war.” Also, illegally released much Classified Information. A real dope!” “Dominion is running our Election. Rigged!” It’s getting old, sad and dangerous… Pray it doesn’t get worse. Fortunately many of the state certifications occur Monday and Tuesday. Stay safe and wear that mask! Glenn
